Chemotherapy Notes

Posted by: New2This in mens issues on

The fatigue is setting in. Each day since the chemo has become a little worse. Luckily, still no nausea and the burping has about stopped (think it must have been from the Emend.) I'm anxious to see how his blood work will be on

I'm not sure if there is the proper place to post this, but here goes.

My husband had his first session of chemotherapy yesterday 9-13-07. Cisplatin and Gemzar. Other than the long day, everything went fine. So far, the only side effect we know of is burping. Nothing excessive, just a little. There is no heartburn or nausea associated with it. He does think he is beginning to feel a little tired. I hope to use this thread to document everything. Next Thursday will be a short day with just Gemzar. He has Emend (3 days following chemo), Zofran (4 or more days following chemo), Dexamethasone (I

My bladder cancer battle

Hello Joe

Just thought I'd ask you how the cystectomy went.. Urologist seems to soft soap it. Piece of cake blah blah blah.  Thought maybe I could get the real scoop from someone who went through it.

I also have 3 grandkids 9,6,3, and I also was a trucker, but only in my early years.

Glad to hear you are 'cancer free'.  It must feel good to hear those words.

Ok, They were very surprised to find path results come back that the muscle was clear, although they said they are extremly suspect that there may still be muscle involvment expecilly as it is in the ureta,
options given were
1. chemo & bcg. They said(the cancer could still progess whilst on chemo) & (it wont work if there is muscle involvement)
2. surgery rc ileal conduit or neo bladder
So dad has chosen to go ahead with surgery,(ileal conduit) which should take place in the next 2-4 weeks at a hospital thats about 3 hours from home.
So we are hoping that every thing goes well.

My bladder cancer battle

Pet scan was taken some time ago and showed negative in bladder even though
we knew there was cancer inside.  Apparently Pet scan is not always
effective inside bladder.  In any event because of 'incorrect' negative
showing, insurance has refused to pay bill for another.

Anyway it doesn't matter.  I will have yet another cystoscopy, and wait four
weeks for another MRI.  Hopefully it will show that tumor is still shrinking.
If not I'll have to choose between the rock and the hard place.  (cystectomy
or hospitalized chemotherapy)

Well tomorrow is d day, we'll find out what Dads options are, he has to be at the hospital at 8.30am for the appointment, we live around 2 hours from the hospital so we will be on the road quite early. I will update further after tomorrow.

Ok so my MRI results are in and the plot thickens.

Pelvic and abdominal MRI's reveal no involvement anywhere else in my body, and a
70% reduction in tumor within the bladder.  Cause for jubilation?  That's what
I mistakenly thought.  BUT, cancer is still there, at least that's the way it seems,
even an MRI can't tell for sure.  Neither can a pet scan.

According to my urologist the fear is it begins growing again, and outside of
cystectomy the only attack he can offer is another heavy dose of chemo.  This time
requiring hospitalization 3 days a month for 6 months.

According to the radiotherapist
