My Story

Posted by: Jeff in BCG on

November I had my 3 week BCG maintenance course and this had to be a lot worse than the 6 I had earlier this year. After the 2nd one I got a severe fever, symptons not unlike tuberculosis and that was no fun for a couple of days. Peed a lot more blood than normal and for longer and then went a few weeks with the urgent need to rush to the toilet. Even now it hits me out of the blue and I have to run but it is improving each day. I am due for another P&P around January and remain confident I am on top of this.

Cheers to everyone and may you all have the best Xmas ever.

Jeff

Thank you all for your expressions of concern and encouragement.

I had my TURBT on Thursday. Will know the results at the follow-up consult when we get the pathology report. My doc also administered Mitomycin during the procedure.

Earlier in the week, during the pre-op consult, we discussed the implications of this recurrence. He said that if it turned out to be T1 (he is in the camp that considers T1 to be invasive) we'd have to begin consideration of bladder removal. If it remains Ta, then we can look at BCG maintenance therapy, given the particulars of my history with this disease.

Hi all. I was on this site, reading and posting, back in 2004, early 2005. I had my first experience with bladder cancer in June 2004.

Female, age 47 then (50 now)

Single 3 cm tumor, T1 (almost T2a, but dodged that bullet by a fortunate layer or two of cells), grade 2/3. TURBT on June 4, 2004 & quit smoking the night before surgery, haven't touched one since. Re-TURBed early July to be sure the muscle wall was not involved. No invasion of the muscle wall.

Began 6 weeks of BCG, in August 2004, but had such horrible bladder spasms and pain from it, the dose was reduced. Although I managed to make

Hello fellow BC survivors

It has been some time since I last reported and there have been a few developments since my encouraging news in early August. It's all good news I am pleased to say.

In October I had another P&P which looked really good apart from a little inflamation within the bladder, which the Uro said was probably from the BCG I had back in March this year. I have just started a 3 week (once a week) maintenance BCG course and then I have to have my urine cytology done and another P&P in 3 months time.

I am still taking my 52mcg of Selenium tablets each day along with my bee pollen

I can only say that I wish I had found this site around 6/22/06.  It’s wonderful to hear the stories of others and read through the forum links.  BC is not well known so when I found out, I truly felt alone.  Since everyone has their own tale and no two are alike, I thought I’d share mine with you.  If it deems posting, I’d be happy to hear from anyone with any question.

I’m 45 yrs old and pretty active though smoking has always been a tough nut for me to crack.  I did quit for 2 years at one point but since I had been on and off using nicotine lozenges to help out.  Any way, June of ’06 I

TaG3 - 6 of one, how much of the other?

Hi Chris,

Thanks for checking in on me. I'll be going in for #5 of 6 on Monday. So far, no side-effects that I've noticed; no tiredness, feverishness, or anything. There's time yet for that, though. I know you'll be going in for your 2nd cytoscopy on Tuesday. I am reassured by your encouraging result at your first one in June. They say that the location and shape predicts recurrence, and the grade predicts progression. You and I both aren't in particularly good shape in either of those categories, but your first result establishes a promising trajectory, which I hope continues.

Thought I'd clarify the reference to a "hood" that I made in my post about my first BCG installation on 14 August. I mentioned that the pharmacy had to prepare the medicine in the urology department because they didn't have the hood, and for some reason I had been left with the impression that the lack of a hood was preventing me from going to the pharmacy, picking up the BCG, and bringing it back up to the department myself, which is the usual procedure; I suspected it was some sort of cover or container for the mixture. As it turns out, the BCG, once mixed, is put in a regular glass
