I have created a flow chart for bladder cancer patients. It can pretty much be used at any time from initial concern about the potential of having bladder cancer through various stages of treatment.

My hope is that people will find this useful. Rather than posting it everywhere and having to try to maintain version control on a number of sites, I am putting the link to ABLCS forum where I originally posted it.

I am not a doctor but I do have a good bit of experie [...]

No abnormal cells detected. Doc said everything inside looked good. We opted to start BCG maintenance in 6 weeks and every 6 months after that till we determine it's not needed.

It's amazing how I've gotten used to the procedure. Only thing that bothers me now is the injection of the numbing jell. When the scope gets close to the prostate I take a deep breath and slowly let it out and I barely feel it. That's a FAR cry from how it felt [...]

My husband had neobladder surgery June 15. All was going well until an infection July 16. He was admitted back to the hospital for 4 days, he still had the malacot tube. He was voiding on schedule (only 20 to 50 cc from the tube after voiding normally) and didn't seem to have a problem. When he had the infection they told him to use the bag for the first week to keep the bladder as empty as possible and restart voiding normally and finish emptying with the mala [...]

Where to start? 2004-2005

Periodic slight bleeding and soreness of the lower abdominal region started just a couple of months after hurricanes Charley, Francis and Jean blew over our home here in central Florida. Although we suffered minimal wind damage the rain came in around the windows as if we had left them open. This started the refurnishing and remodeling project and contributed to my delaying seeing a doctor. Prior to this I had not seen a doctor in some thirty od [...]

We found out that the tumors have invaded the bladder wall and was told by our urologist that my mom's bladder will have to be removed. Since then she has been referred by our Urologist to another Urologist in UCLA who specializes in performing Neobladder surgery.

Just dropped in for an update. Had another cystoscopy performed in February and all is well with no signs of recurrence. Next check 12 months. I trust everyone is making progress with their disease and is on the improve.

Married my daughter off on Friday and what a proud father I am.

On the downside my 80yo father in law has just been diagnosed with lung cancer with multiple secondaries and the prognosis is grim.

01-29-08 Results of recent CT Scans

I talked to my nurse on the phone, not so good a way to get results. I think I'll call back and ask to pick up a copy of the report today. I did hear that my largest liver lesion had grown from 4.0 to 4.9 CM since November. And it sounds as if I have more lung nodules than before. I am confused about what to do now. My urologist wants to do cystoscopy on TH and I am also scheduled to see my medical oncologist that day. One thing has to b [...]

Part IV

My urologist returned in January. He was unaware of what had happened until I spoke to him. His response was that he was not concerned about the stricture. "The important thing was to be sure that there was no cancer." I fully understood his focus on the cancer but was unhappy that that focus appeared to be distracting him from dealing with a problem that made me miserable and which I wanted to be sure would not recur.

Part III

When you learn that you have cancer, it changes you for ever. Every clean bill of health is a celebration, and an invitation to go back to living, but... waiting once more for the ticking time bomb, waiting for the other shoe to drop. And then, there are complications of treatment that never let you forget.
I thought that my bladder cancer was the worst thing that ever happened to me, but I was wrong. Two years ago, just after my mother's 83 birthday, s [...]

Part II

I took my catheter out and prepared to enjoy my recovery with all my problems behind me. I had my first Christmas celebration with gifts and stockings since my daughter's boyfriend wasn't Jewish and the kids wanted to do it. Of course, we threw a little Hanukkah Gelt into the stockings to make it ecumenical. The hooks for the stockings are still screwed into the mantle. Then we went out to the movies. I'm a pediatrician, not especially knowledgeable about bladder cancer since it's just not seen in kids... and even now, after having had bladder cancer, from reading the posts on this forum it's quite clear there are lots of f [...]

Uro is hopeful it is just the effects of the BCG maintenance I had before Christmas. Has scheduled another Cystoscopy and bladder biopsy for 7 March so I will cross my fingers until then. This is something I hadn't expected and don't need right now as I am going through a bit of sh*t with my employer at the moment. It's all a bit stressful but I am trying to remai [...]

I was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma (G1pTa) in June of Last year.

I have undergone a TURBT at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. A 1 cm tumour was removed, and a one off installation of Mitomycin-C was given. As I was catheterised, I spent 1 night in hospital, and was released the next morning. I then spent a long, long week awaiting my pathology results. My consultant being a very cautious man sent me for an IVU. Fortunately that showed no involvement with my kidneys or [...]
