My bladder cancer battle

Posted by: Mike A in bladder cancer on Print PDF

Pet scan was taken some time ago and showed negative in bladder even though
we knew there was cancer inside.  Apparently Pet scan is not always
effective inside bladder.  In any event because of 'incorrect' negative
showing, insurance has refused to pay bill for another.

Anyway it doesn't matter.  I will have yet another cystoscopy, and wait four
weeks for another MRI.  Hopefully it will show that tumor is still shrinking.
If not I'll have to choose between the rock and the hard place.  (cystectomy
or hospitalized chemotherapy)

And will they remove the tumor/tumor residue at this time? I am not used to people being treated without removing the tumor, was this a clinical trial to test the approach of chemo+radiation as an ablative therapy? Are you at a cancer center?

Pets are not so good for bladder visualization, no, but are used to detect distant metastasis with pretty good results.

I almost hate to say it but after all you have gone through you just might have to consider the ultimate option of cystectomy...it's about survival. I know you've been fighting the fight longer and harder than most to hold on to your bladder but it is not exactly being your 'friend' these days.

Sending you good thoughts,
Wendy
