My story of Bladder Cancer

Posted by: Rosemary in bladder cancer on Print PDF

I guess we have to kind of see the humour in this, huh, Lauren  :P

I went to the GP today, at my family's insistence.  I gave him the whole story of BCG's, arthritis, etc.
He actually said that you (meaning me)  "obviously know more about the responses of BCG's than I do"... because he had no other patients on BCG (figure that!).

Anyway, he X rayed my arm and hands and for some reason, he wanted a chest X ray and he wanted a bunch of blood.  The rash under my breast and in the female area is yeast and I got some medicine for that which cost me dearly.  After a total of $1450.00 later, I wonder if he will come up with anything different than what we have all surmised here.

I am giving great thought to what Wendy said about being over treated.

Thanks for listening you all.  I know I'm better off than some, but, it feels good to talk to people who understand and care.

Oh, I do want to say that if I do decide on the maintenance BCG's ,then I plan to be eating a daily dose of yoghurt to keep the yeast at bay.  Considering that the yeast balance can be affected by treatment, I think I would recommend this to anyone on BCG.  (Just my humble opinion)

I can attest to Lauren's statement. Luckily, the GYN docs are also in the same office and people naturally assume that I am visiting the GYN. Being 32 helps, I guess. smilies/smiley.gif

Hi Rosemary

I think more and more young people are getting BC these days.  The doctors are very very suprised at my age (26) never smoked.  He told me that I could be in the text books!  Hey, but we are prevailing.  I am curious do you have a ta grade 2 or a t1 grade 2.  Was the tumor in the lamina?  I had low grade ta and all that I had was TURBT.  I am now 6 months out with no reoccurence.  My original uro believed in treating young patients with superficial tumors conservatively due to the possibly side effects of the treatments.  If you do have a ta grade 2 I would stop with any treatments.  Time will tell if you have a deseased bladder or not.  I love that you are a proud grandma.  I have three children 5,3, and 8 months!

Have a merry Christmas,
Alyssa

Hey, Alyssa,

My goodness,  you are young to have 3 children.  I am so glad that you are doing well.

I am a Ta G2 and am seriously considering the possiblility that I may be being over treated.  I have 5 more months to think this through and talk with people here, to decide if stopping the treatments might be a good idea.

BTW, I am a VERY PROUD Grandma.  What a light she is to my life!!

I hope that you and yours have a Very, Very Merry Christmas!!

Sincerely,
Rosemary

Alyssa--Was your tumor in the lamina?  If not, is that why you didn't have to have BCG?

Hi

No my tumor was only in the epithelium.  There was no invasion into the lamina.  Two pathologist classified it as a low grade 2 of 4 t.c.c. with out stromal invasion.  A third doctor said that it had the histology of a inverted papiloma but there were areas which raised the concerned that it was a t.c.c. .  The urologist oncologist I saw was a little upset that I had no Mitocyn (sp) at the time of initial resection.  He thought I had been treated very conservately.  He also felt that the treatment that I had might have been all that I needed.  I am comfortable with a wait and see aproach.  It seems to have sorked so far.
