My story of Bladder Cancer

Posted by: Rosemary in bladder cancer on Print PDF

I heard a really good story of a bladder cancer outcome today and wanted to share it here.

When I was diagnosed last January, a childhood friend of mine called me and told me about her brother who had Bladder Cancer 10 years ago.  She said that the Doctor told him that he had the largest tumor he had ever seen.  She told me that the cancer had never come back.

By chance, he called the office today, and I briefly spoke with him and his wife.  He had his 10 year check up and CANCER FREE.  His wife told me that the doctor told him that he wouldn't have given him a nickel for his chances of 10 year return visit CANCER FREE.

That is my understanding of what they told me.

(It's hard to chit chat in an office.)...  :-X

I just searched and found your story Rosemary scary.you sound a lot like what happened to me negative biopsys and positive urovision l never knew when to trust what the outcome was.Have had neg biopsies and my doctor send for a second oppinon to find they were positive.
Like you this past 4 years has been a learning experience for me,one top docter I saw at MUSC told me from now on never trust anyone and get a copy of all yor reports hand carry everything to whom ever you go to see and most important keep a journal something I have found invaluable when I need to look back see what medication has bothered me and what has not.

Rosemary what did you think of N.C hospital that is one of the choices thay had given me if I wanted the Indiana pouch. I live in South Carolina they also do the Indians Pouch at MUSC in Charleston but seem to lean more to the bag outside.

Good Luck with your BCG 4 years of it  for me I feel like I fought a war.

I think that what this doctor was saying was that you have to be your own best advocate. This was really good advice, especially coming from another doctor.

The Doctor who diagnosed me was in awe of Dr. Pruthi at UNC Hospital. He told me that in his opinion, Dr. Pruthi was like the star quarterback in this field. It is my understanding that Dr Pruthi handles the RC's at UNC.  He is "the buck stops here" person (as far as I know) for bladder cancer patients in the NC area.  My co worker has a friend who got the pouch from Dr. Pruthi last March and she is doing very well.

So you are in South Carolina, Rosie is in Virginia , and I am in between in North Carolina.

I'm glad you are here at the forum.

With warmest regards,
Rosemary

Fallon,

I thought to inquire yesterday to my co-worker about how her friend was getting along. (The one who had the RC at UNC)...

"She's doing great", was the reply. I asked how her friend had liked Dr. Pruthi.  She nodded.  "She really spoke well of him.  Both she and her husband were happy with their treatment. "

I guess it's been almost a year now since the surgery. BTW, this patient was in her 70's.

Wishing you the very best,
Rosemary

Rosemary

I notice you haven't posted about yourself for a couple of months or so and I was wondering how you are getting along.

Hey Jeff,

I just saw your post, somehow I missed this, and I'm sorry because I look in here several times a day.

I think I've spoken with you since you posted this, but I guess I should update that the last poke and peek early this month was free and clear.  The doc is discontinuing BCG's because of the crippling arthritis, and he will see me in 6 months.  It's kind of strange to be under such stringent surveillance, and then to be set free with a little rope.

Thanks so much for asking, and I'm glad that you are doing well.

Your BC friend,
Rosemary
