RECCURENCES

Posted by: nancynursez in TCC on Print PDF

I have had superficial bladder cancer for 4 years, with one recurrence 18 months after diagnosis.  Now I have multiple areas of suspect and will undergo another turbt and mitomycin instillation.  I am not a candidate for bcg due to a suppressed immune system.

It appears to me that this will be an on going effort to control cancer through the quarterly Poke and Peeks, and then episodic resections and more mitomycin.  I don't think I understood this initially.

My cancer was found early via a urine sample for something else.  Red cells were seen without any other symptoms.  So I was referred to a urologist however I had figured out it was likely cancer as there is little else to give blood in the urine in a post hyst patient.  Still the recurrences are frustrating.

Hi,
I'm John, I'm writing from Australia.
I had 2 episodes of haematuria, starting in Nov 2007 and then April 2008. For 2 months after that I was being tested for kidney disease and then referred to a urologist. I've just had a cystoscopy and was told I had 2 tumors removed. I've been advised to have cystoscopies every 3 months.
Could you please tell me what is the survival rate for such a cancer after 5 years?
Thank you
John
